As part of a celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of TV Guide, visitors to the magazine’s website (www.tvguide.com), recently selected Jan Hammer’s “Miami Vice Theme” as the most popular TV theme song of the past 50 years. Out of the thousands of possible theme songs, TV Guides’ editors selected one theme from each of the past 50 years. The “Miami Vice Theme” song was chosen to represent the year 1986, and earned 35% of all votes cast. With a large majority of the votes for the Miami Vice Theme song, the Miami Vice soundtrack became a huge success. Want to relive the days of Jan Hammer's Miami Vice theme song, make sure to get your copy of the Miami Vice soundtrack. The Miami Vice soundtrack was unique in the use of music. Using first tier artists such as Phil Collins, Glen Frey, Peter Gabriel and U2, the music added something dramatically beyond just background. The lyrics and tempo of the Miami Vice theme song contributed to the storyline of the scene and often spoke for the characters. The pounding score by Jan Hammer was the first of many backgrounds he would do in a distinctive style. When he left after the 4th Season and was replaced by Tim Truman, many fans were disappointed. The great news is, Jan Hammer's Miami Vice theme song is in the Miami Vice soundtrack! |
